Discussion: The Present and the Future of Russia’s Oil and Gas Policy
On 30 October 2014 Dr. Mikhail Krutikhin, Senior Partner of the RusEnergy consultancy gave an in-depth presentation of the most recent trends in the management of the Russian hydrocarbon sector. He identified that the oil and gas sector is vital for the financial survival of the Russian economy, as according to national statistical data, the share of the hydrocarbon revenue in the overall Russian budget has increased from 9% in 2000 up to 52% in 2014. more »

On 28 October 2014, the Center for Study of Democracy organized a round table with Dr. Theresa Sabonis-Helf, Professor at the US National War College. International conference: Energy Security and State Capture Risks in Europe
On 27 October 2014 the Center for Study of Democracy and the Southeast Leadership for Development and Integrity (SELDI) organized an international conference on Energy Security and State Capture Risks in Europe with the support of NATO’s Public Diplomacy Department and DG Enlargement. The event served as a platform for discussion of the main problems of the common European energy security amidst the continuing conflict in eastern Ukraine and state capture as a specific security risk factor for the countries of Southeast Europe. more »

Round Table: Energy Security in the Black Sea Region in the Wake of the Ukrainian Crisis
On 10 June 2014, the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) co-hosted at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. the roundtable Energy Security in the Black Sea Region in the Wake of the Ukrainian Crisis. The former Prime Minister of Bulgaria Mr. Boyko Borisov was a keynote speaker at the roundtable. Other participants included U.S. businesses, representatives of embassies of Black Sea and Central and East European countries, Washington based policy institutes and academics. more »
