Presentation of the report “Police Stops and Ethnic Profiling in Bulgaria”
On September 19, 2006 the Center for the Study of Democracy launched the report Police Stops and Ethnic Profiling in Bulgaria at a public meeting of the National Crime Prevention Commission. Between June and December 2005 CSD and Vitosha Research, supported by the Open Society Justice Initiative carried out a study of police stops. more »

Round Table on Crime Surveys
On 19 June 2006 the CSD team which developed the Crime Trends in Bulgaria Report met with Jon Simmons, Director – Strategic Research and Data at the UK Home Office at a round table on crime victimization surveys.The discussion focused on the strengths and limitations of the various survey methodologies and their implications for performance evaluation. more »
 
Public Meeting: Crime Trends in Bulgaria
On 3 May 2006, at a public meeting of the National Crime Prevention Commission, the Center for the Study of Democracy launched its latest report Crime Trends in Bulgaria 2000 – 2005. The event, held at the Hilton Hotel, was chaired by Minister of Interior, Mr. Rumen Petkov, and included input from Chief Commissioner Valentin Petrov, Director of the National Police Service, the Ambassador of the UK, Jeremy Hill, Mr. Bozhidar Bozhinov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, other members of the Commission, MPs, business and media representatives. more »

On 14 September, 2005 the CSD, jointly with Saferworld, UK organized a public discussion to present a report on the private security companies in South Eastern Europe, published by the SEE Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC). more »
 
Round Table Counteracting Corruption in the Ministry of Interior
The results from the implementation of the communication strategy for counteracting corruption in the system of the Ministry of Interior, developed on a twinning project between the Ministries of Interior of Bulgaria and the United Kingdom, were presented at a round table at hotel Rila in Sofa on 17 May, 2005. Participants in the discussion were also representatives of nongovernmental organizations, who are members of the so-called Transparency Group on the project. more »

6th Colloquium on Cross-Border Crime: “Crime and Economy and Crime Economy”
On September 2-4, 2004 the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation and the University of Tilburg organized in Berlin a colloquium on the issues of cross-border crime. It aimed to reveal the links between legal and illegal entrepreneurs, the vulnerability of the legal economy and the ways to counteract organized business crime. more »
