» “Foresight Bridge” - International Workshop on Foresight, Brussels, July 06, 2004,
The Foresight Bridge workshop is an initiative stemming from the ForeTech project supported under the STRATA Programme of the European Commission. The workshop was organized by ARC Fund, as ForeTech project coordinator, with the support of the Commission and the project consortium partners. The objective of the Foresight Bridge is to network the new member states and the candidate countries, ensure long-term sustainability of foresight initiatives, and develop a critical mass in foresight.
» Foresight – a Valuable Tool in Support of Science and Technology Policy Making,
ARC Fund was the first organisation to introduce the concept and practice of foresight in Bulgaria as a key policy making tool that is being widely used in most European countries. Since October 2002, when ARC Fund launched the ForeTech project, it successfully implemented two pilot foresight initiatives in Bulgria focused on (i) Biotechnologies in the Agro-Food industry, and (ii) e-Government. These initiatives were implemented by prominent experts from the respective sectors and mobilized representatives of all stakeholders. They resulted in enhanced awareness about the role of foresight in policy development and decision making, in better institutional capacity to organize and conduct foresight programmes and initiatives, and in a set of recommendations and suggestions to national and EU-level policy makers for designing measures in support of RTD and innovation.
» Program for Certification of Linux Experts in Bulgaria Launched,
The launch of a Linux experts certification program for Bulgaria was announced
at a round table in Sofia co-organized by Free
Software Association – Bulgaria, FSA-BG, Bulgaria
Development Gateway and ARC Fund on March 5, 2004. Mr. Glenn McKnight,
the Director for development of programs within Linux Professional Institute, LPI, responsible for local partners around
the world and the international funding, announced the start of the process
for educating and certifying Linux experts in Bulgaria.
» ARC Fund Promotes E-Business Development in the Less-Favoured Regions of Bulgaria ,
ARC Fund is involved in a project aimed at building adaptive zones for interregional e-commerce in specific sectors of SMEs from less favored regions in Bulgaria. Project partners are different scientific and commercial entities from Bulgaria, Germany, UK and Greece. The main goal is to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to improve their access to the global European market. The project establishes virtual regional zones for e-commerce, as well as support centers to help particular enterprises substitute the conventional commercial relations with e-business solutions and increase their efficiency and growth potential.
» ARC Fund Helps Bulgarian Industrial Companies Incorporate Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) in Their Products,
Since 2002 ARC Fund is a member of the MOEMS (Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems) Competence Center which assists European industries in incorporating MOEMS in their products, helps industrial customers implementing existing technologies and develops new MOEMS components and technology for their products and systems, in order to increase their competitiveness.
» Information Day on Regional Innovation Strategies,
On December 5, 2003 ARC Fund organized an Information Day on the forthcoming (in spring 2004) call for proposal for implementation of Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) projects. The call is part of the European Union's 6th Framework Program. The conference, which took place at the Boyana government compound in Sofia, was a joint event supported by DG Enterprises of the European Commission and the Partner Network in the UK.
» ARC Fund plays the leading role in the introduction of Foresight in Bulgaria,
Technology Foresight is considered to be of value not only for the leading economies, but also for economies like Bulgaria and Romania. The processes of globalisation put stronger pressure on transition countries to specialise and develop adjustment policies. The foresight initiative in Bulgaria is aimed at adaptation of the foresight toolbox, elaboration of methodological frameworks and recommendations by implementing two foresight pilots in the field of e-Government and Agriculture (plant and animal biotechnology) and beverage and food industry.
» Technology Brokerage Event in the Field of Mechanical Engineering,
IRC-Bulgaria together with IRC Lower Saxony/Saxony-Anhalt in Germany and IRC Help-Forward in Greece organised a Technology Brokerage Event in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The event took place during the International Technical Fair 2003 in the ancient and beautiful Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on 1-2 October 2003.
