 LIBE Committee Hearing
The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, and the European People’s Party invited CSD to present the results of the study Examining the links between organised crime and corruption. On 13 July 2010, Mr. Alexander Stoyanov, Research Director, Mr. Ruslan Stefanov, Director, Economic Program and Mr. Philip Gounev, Research Fellow at CSD presented to LIBE the study. Their presentation was followed by a lively discussion with numerous comments and questions. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Juan Lopez Aguilar (ES) of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the EP. more »
Seminar: The necessary changes in the legal framework for the operations of non-governmental organizations
On July 2, 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy with the support of Balkan Trust for Democracy, organized a seminar “Discussion on the necessary changes in the legal framework for the operations of non-governmental organizations (NGOs)”. The seminar was focused on the exchange of experience regarding the legal framework for NGOs and its application in the operations of local NGOs. The seminar took place in the town of Gabrovo and brought together 13 participants from Gabrovo and the region. more »
Round Table: Disclosure and Prevention of Conflicts of Interest
On 17 June 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy with the support of the Balkan Trust for Democracy organized a public discussion on the legal framework of prevention, disclosure, and the law enforcement of conflict of interest. The round table is part of a series of consultations organized by the Center for the Study of Democracy in support of better governance of relationships between civil society and central and local governments. more »

Round table: Energy Policy and Energy Diversification
On 18 May 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy organized a round table on energy policy and energy diversification. The main challenges and opportunities for energy diversification that Bulgaria faces were discussed during the event. The Center for the Study of Democracy presented an Issue Brief, which has been developed in cooperation with the Atlantic Council of the US. more »
Seminar: Conflict of Interest, Good Governance and Management of the Local Authority - Civil Society Relationship
On 14 May 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy, in conjunction with Ms. Maria Nedelcheva from the European People’s Party (EPP) and the Balkan Trust for Democracy initiative, organized a seminar on the topic of "Conflict of interest, good governance and management of the local authority - civil society relationship”. The seminar was focused on sharing experience in legislation pertaining to conflict of interest and its application to the public-private partnership between municipalities and NGOs. more »
Workshops: Feasibility of establishing a European platform to prevent and fight undeclared work
On 4 and 11 May 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy and Regioplan – – a Dutch research institute, organized two workshops to examine the feasibility of establishing a European platform for preventing and combating undeclared work. Representatives of Ministries of Labour and Social Policy and Ministries of Finance, labor inspectors, research institutes, trade unions and employers' organizations from Central, Southern and Eastern Europe - EU Member States, participated in the workshops. more »

On 9 February 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy, with the cooperation of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation organized a public discussion on the monitoring and assessment of public policies. Round Table: The Hidden Economy in Bulgaria: Policy Responses to the Economic Crisis
On 10 December 2009 the Center for the Study of Democracy and Friedrich Ebert Foundation organized the annual round table on the challenges that the hidden economy posed to the development and competitiveness of Bulgaria. This year the thematic focus was on implemented government policies to tackle the global financial crisis and their effect on the dynamics of hidden economy. more »
Press Conference: Corruption in Bulgaria in 2009
On 7 December 2009 the Center for the Study of Democracy organized a press conference to present the results of the Corruption Monitoring System in the regular annual survey of corruption in Bulgaria in 2009.
