Round Table on Crime Surveys
On 19 June 2006 the CSD team which developed the Crime Trends in Bulgaria Report met with Jon Simmons, Director – Strategic Research and Data at the UK Home Office at a round table on crime victimization surveys.The discussion focused on the strengths and limitations of the various survey methodologies and their implications for performance evaluation. more »
 
International seminar: Export Control of Dual-Use Items and Arms: Industry Outreach
On 22 - 23 May 2006 the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria in cooperation with the Center for the Study of Democracy organized an international seminar on Export Control of Dual-Use Items and Arms: Industry Outreach. The seminar was part of the continuing implementation of the Joint Action Plan of Bulgaria and Hungary offering exchange of information, training and assistance to the countries from the Western Balkans. more »
 
Round table: Prospects of Energy Security in Europe
On 11 May 2006 the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted a round table on the topic Prospects of Energy Security in Europe with guest speaker Mr. Philip Stephens, associate editor of the Financial Times and senior commentator at the newspaper. Participants in the event were UK Ambassador Jeremy Hill, Mr. Valeri Rachev, Ambassador of Bulgaria to Iraq, Dr. Ognian Shentov, Chairman of CSD, Mr. Assen Dyulgerov, attorney-at-law, Ambassador Boyko Noev, CSD European Program Director, Mr. Emil Yalnazov, Director of the UN and Global Affairs Directorate at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and others. more »
 
Seminar: Judiciary and Counteracting Corruption and Organized Crime
On May 9, 2006, the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted the first of a series of training seminars on The Judiciary and the Counteraction of Corruption and Organized Crime, organized jointly with Global Fisc Management. Investigators, prosecutors and judges, representatives of the Ministry of Interior, lawyers, and media attended the seminar. more »
 
Public Meeting: Crime Trends in Bulgaria
On 3 May 2006, at a public meeting of the National Crime Prevention Commission, the Center for the Study of Democracy launched its latest report Crime Trends in Bulgaria 2000 – 2005. The event, held at the Hilton Hotel, was chaired by Minister of Interior, Mr. Rumen Petkov, and included input from Chief Commissioner Valentin Petrov, Director of the National Police Service, the Ambassador of the UK, Jeremy Hill, Mr. Bozhidar Bozhinov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, other members of the Commission, MPs, business and media representatives. more »
 
Fourth Annual Security Conference: NATO Transformation - Facing New Security Frontiers
As part of its series of annual security events, the Center for the Study of Democracy held its 2006 security conference NATO Transformation - Facing New Security Frontiers on 28-29 April, 2006. It was a follow-up to the 2006 NATO ministerial meeting hosted by the government of Bulgaria. The conference contributed to the broader debate on NATO’s transformation and helped outline bold new policies, overcoming legacy relationships and trans-atlantic divides. more »
 
Round table: NATO’s nuclear policy and non-proliferation of WMD
On 11 April 2006 the Center for the Study of Democracy held a round table on NATO’s nuclear policy and non-proliferation of WMD. The aim of the event was to provide more information and clarity regarding NATO’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) policy. The main speaker was Mr. Guy Roberts, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for WMD Policy and Director of the Nuclear Policy Directorate. Participants in the round table were members of the Bulgarian Parliament, staff officers and representatives of the media. more »

Third Annual Security Conference: Security Risks and Transformation -Euro-Atlantic and Regional Perspectives
The Third Annual Security Conference of the Center for the Study of Democracy took place on November 19-20, 2005 in Sofia. The forum aimed to give more prominence to ideas, concepts and policies which dominate the agenda of NATO, the EU and the wider international community in this field. more »
 
EU Prospects and Security in South Eastern Europe: Hidden Economy, Transborder Crime and Development
An international conference on hidden economy and transborder crime in SEE was held on 28-29 October 2005 in Hilton hotel in Sofia. The conference brought together researchers from prominent scientific institutions in Europe to share their views and discuss possible solutions of the existing problems. more »
