Can a trust-based criminal policy lead to fewer crimes?
In November 2011, the European Commission supported a research project into criminal policy and the promotion of trust in justice. The project, named FIDUCIA after the Latin term for “trust”, involves research organizations from eleven countries, including the Center for the Study of Democracy. more »

On 25 November 2011, at the Sofia Regional Court, the Center for the Study of Democracy held the second of the series of training seminars on E-tools for Criminal Case Management within Selected EU Member States. The event was attended by Mr. Krassimir Vlahov, Chairman of the Sofia Regional Court, Ms. Gabriela Bakalova, Court Administrator, judges and officials of the court, as well as prosecutors from the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office. more »
 
Presentation of the study: E-Tools for Criminal Case Management within Selected EU Member States
On November 17, 2011, at the regional court of Gotse Delchev the Center for the Study of Democracy presented the study E-Tools for Criminal Case Management within Selected EU Member States. The publication is part of the project Tracking Progress in Strengthening the Criminal Justice Indicators for Integrated Case Management and presents the best practices in using ICT for better administration of criminal cases. The event was attended by representatives of the court, prosecution, investigation and the police as well as by lawyers from the municipality, specialised in criminal cases. more »
 
Public Conference: Prison’s minorities in the Western Balkans
On July 9, 2011, representatives of the Center for the Study of Democracy took part in the public conference on Prison’s minorities in the Western Balkans in Tirana. Public discussion: Public Trust in the Criminal Justice System – an Instrument for Penal Policy Assessment
On May 11, 2011, the Center for the Study of the Democracy organized a public discussion on Public Trust in the Criminal Justice System – an Instrument for Penal Policy Assessment. At the event the organizers presented an analysis of survey results on the Bulgarian society’s level of confidence in the criminal justice institutions, on the public attitudes towards the level of corruption in these institutions and the subjective perceptions of fear of crime. more »

Strengthening Civil Society Capacity on the United Nations Convention against Corruption and its Review Mechanism
On 23 March 2011, at the Center for the Study of Democracy was held training on Strengthening Civil Society Capacity on the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and its Review Mechanism. It was a national follow-up of an international training (organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the UNCAC Coalition on 2-4 February 2011, in Laxenburg, Austria) attended by Dr. Maria Yordanova, CSD’s Law Program Director. more »
